Trullo Tarantini

All’esterno ampio  spazio prospiciente l’ingresso principale.

ENGLISH

The Tarantini Trullo (circular dwelling with conical roof) is located in the splendid Salentine peninsula. Country side, in the agro town of Latiano, in the vicinity of Brindisi. Totally immersed in an ancient olive grove, it has recently been beautifully renovated.

Under each of the six conical roofs there is a circular room and living spaces: a large entrance hall, a small kitchen, two bedrooms, fire place.

A spacious and bright sunroom extension has been added to the east side of the building (with access from the kitchen). The simplicity and the unusual shape of the room with their white washed walls and niches, provides a unique living space.

These ancient buildings (still retain the fascination of their past and of peasants’ and farmers’ dwellings) offer the rare opportunity of experiencing the mystical atmosphere of the past, connected as they are, with the traditional way of living of local peasants and farmers in harmony with the surrounding environment and resources. A testimony to the new generation of well-balanced relationship between man and his environment.

The “trulli” are an extraordinary example of spontaneous architecture. They are small rural buildings, built “a secco” or dry, without the use of mortar.

The conical roof, which gives these building their distinctive appearance, was constructed with an inner layer of wedge-shaped local limestone pieces, capped by a closing stone and an outer layer of limestone tiles tilted outwards to create a watertight covering.

On the top of the cone, a mysterious handmade sandstone pinnacle, was apparently, the trade-mark of the stonemason who built the trullo.

It is a moving unique experience feeling of well being. There you can enjoy unspoilt countryside in complete relaxation in the serene company of a crowd of ancient olive trees.

The swimming pool, built in 2022, completes the oasis of relaxation and well-being of Trullo Tarantini.
